Nicole rests after an enthralling performance
Revlon Run/Walk for Women
We are delighted to share with you that Women of Faith Speaker Team member Nicole Johnson was given the distinguished honor of hosting the Closing Ceremonies of the 2006 New York City Revlon Run/Walk for Breast Cancer. Held this past Saturday, May 6, in Central Park, Nicole was selected because of her exceptionally strong performance skills as well as her unique ability to bring positive, humorous and motivational encouragement to such a challenging topic. In this role, Nicole personally greeted and comforted hundreds of cancer survivors who had completed the 5K course with friends and family members. Her husband, Roy Newman, joined Nicole on stage to speak to the importance of men’s roles in supporting the women in their lives who are fighting this terrible disease.
In addition, Nicole performed “Stepping Into the Ring” to a crowd of 40,000 during the Opening Ceremonies of this event, held in Times Square, which also featured actress Susan Sarandon, The Sopranos’ James Gandolfini and Jamie-Lynn Sigler, and Law and Order SVU’s Christopher Meloni. Many of you have seen Nicole perform her “Stepping Into the Ring” sketch live as part of the Contagious Joy tour. It depicts the physical and emotional battles faced by all women who fight cancer. Those who saw Nicole’s performance on Saturday were deeply moved and energized as they began their run/walk.
Nicole feels deeply touched to have been chosen to speak out for thousands of breast cancer survivors and to help celebrate the race for the cure. She invites everyone to join her in support of this very special and important cause
