Stay In the Pink

Jamie Inman’s organization, Stay In the Pink brings awareness to women about early detection of breast cancer and hope for those already in the fight. The impact of her one-woman business inspired us and we hope it will touch your life, too!

Jamie Inman’s motto is “While others work tirelessly to find a cure, we want to help you live to see it.” Given a second chance at life after two diagnoses of breast cancer, Jamie’s battle began fifteen years ago and continues as she strives to encourage women to learn more about breast health. In February of 2006, Jamie had double mastectomy surgery with immediate reconstruction. For Jamie that is when the journey began. As a two-time survivor of breast cancer, Jamie found herself driven to teach other women the importance of early detection and to educate and support those who were already battling the disease.

After coming out of her surgeries and all that those years of her life entailed, Jamie began to see how God saw her in her circumstances. God used cancer in Jamie’s life to bring about healing from traumatic childhood experiences. “What I saw was God saying to me, ‘That healing you’ve been praying for 30 years? Well, it is coming through this – but it’s going to be a bumpy ride.”

Jamie’s second diagnosis with cancer became for her a time of torment. As she shook her fists at God in the midst of her heartbreaking tragedy, Jamie began to develop a new perspective. Somehow in the midst of this terrible, bitter experience, she began to feel that her circumstances would not be wasted. She remembered that God does not waste our suffering, and she began to experience healing of emotional wounds from early childhood trauma. She says, “If we’ve been Christians for very long, we’re all looking for the meaning in suffering. Every time I reached a breaking point, God would answer my cries with the assurance that my circumstances were in His will for my good. That was all I needed.” Jamie wanted to tell her story to other women – to bring hope for the daily grind as well as to teach them about breast health and remind them that they are not alone.

“Women are surrounded by love and support and still feel so alone when they have breast cancer. There is something about lying under a huge radiation machine…it makes you feel very small and alone,” says Jamie.

As Jamie began to heal physically and emotionally from the despair, she joined up with the Plexus Pink organization and became an agent for an innovative breast health device. “The Breast Chek™ Kit,” is a breast self-examination kit that helps women detect lumps or changes in breast tissue during their monthly self exams. Jamie began marketing this kit as well as becoming passionate about educating women about their own breast health.

In January of 2008, Stay in the Pink was formed. Jamie had no idea the impact this organization would have as her one-woman business took off. Her message of breast health education and her personal journey began to impact the lives of women across the globe. One friend even took Jamie’s “Breast Chek™ Kit” to Kenya – where they saw about 300 women per day. There, they performed breast exams, shared Jamie’s model, and gave women the supplies and equipment needed for early detection. Jamie’s donation of these kits will help incorporate breast health information into the mission of those who go overseas. Stay in the Pink’s mission is “to save and enrich lives through early detection and peace of mind.”

While still in the development phases, Stay in the Pink offers breast health education and information about the “Breast Chek™ Kit.” Jamie’s passion for teaching women how to treat their bodies with more seriousness has allowed her to teach Breast Cancer 101 classes over the community, and to put on various “Brown Bag Demos” and “Pink Parties.” Similar to a tupperware party, you can invite your friends who want to learn more about breast health. “We decorate and have good food and go crazy with pink; we dress in pink; we even have a “boobie prize!”

When Jamie is not sharing her story or throwing a “Pink Party”, she’s busy as a part-time marriage and family therapist. Counseling in her office three days a week, enjoying vacations with her husband of 39 years, Jamie is dedicated to her message of hope.

Her healing journey and her message of encouragement in the fight against cancer has inspired us at Fresh Brewed Life®. To learn more about Jamie or Stay in the Pink, visit www.stayinthepink.com.
